Maple Bars with Maple Frosting | The Maple Kind, Yeah!

Homemade Maple Bars. These are like a Maple Cookie Bar, The Maple Kind, yeah! Old joke, but still funny! I was a bit skeptical on how these would taste since there is so much Maple in them, but they really turned out pretty good!

A few words of advice when making this.  Make sure you use a good quality maple syrup.  If you can find locally made Maple Syrup, that is going to be the best!  I would say use a light amber syrup for this recipe.

Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 325° . Take an 8x8 pan and lightly grease it or spray it with Bakers Joy. Whisk together the flour and salt, set aside. In a large bowl, with a hand mixer, blend together sugar and softened butter until crumbly. Now add the syrup, egg, and vanilla. Beat together at a low speed until smooth. Now add the flour mixture and the nuts and blend slowly, until it's all combined. Pour into your baking pan. Bake for 40 - 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let bars cool completely before frosting them
  2. Frosting: Cream together butter and cream cheese at a high speed. Then add your brown sugar and syrup and beat slowly until smooth. Add powdered sugar and mix at a medium speed. All a little more sugar if necessary. Spread the frosting on top of the maple bars. Cut into 12 or 16 bars. Sprinkle the top with nuts (optional)
